contract wars!

According to Chris Johnson's agent, the Tennessee Titans and the running back have agreed on a restructured deal that will ensure his participation in the team's upcoming training camp.

Most people are aware of CJ running for 2,000+ yards in 2009, making him the sixth member of the club and also broke the NFL yards from scrimmage record. His season was so groundbreaking that he has  quite possibly eclipsed the Vikings' Adrian Peterson as the best running back in the league. This is the same player who was projected to make $550,000 this year and less than his back-up, Alvin Pearman.

I know NFL teams can't increase a player's base salary by any more than 30% and I also realize that there have been so many bad contracts handed out that the "right" thing to do is to simply play out the initial contract that was awarded, but this may be one of the rare instances that it should be permissible.
